These terms apply when you use the Dexter app, the Dexter web app at app.houseofdexter.com and this website (houseofdexter.com), together "Dexter". Please read them before you create an account.
In short
- Dexter is free for pet parents, with no paywall.
- Dexter AI gives general guidance, not veterinary advice. In an emergency, contact your nearest emergency vet straight away.
- Your content stays yours. You choose what your Pet Passport shares, and you can delete your account at any time.
- Be kind, be honest, and don't use Dexter to harm people or animals.
1. Who we are and agreeing to these terms
Dexter is provided by [CONFIRM: exact legal name] ("House of Dexter", "we", "us"), a private limited company registered in India, with its registered office at [CONFIRM: registered address].
By creating an account or using Dexter, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Dexter.
2. Who can use Dexter
You must be 13 or older to use Dexter. If you're 13 to 17, you need your parent or guardian's consent, and they accept these terms on your behalf. [CONFIRM: legal. India's DPDP Act treats under-18s as children and requires verifiable parental consent; confirm this wording and how consent is collected] You're responsible for keeping your sign-in details safe and for everything that happens in your account. Tell us straight away at [CONFIRM: support address] if you think someone else has used it.
3. What Dexter does
Dexter helps you look after your pets. You can keep pet profiles and health records, add records with Smart Import, set reminders, ask Dexter AI questions, share a Pet Passport by QR code or one-time code, and post Lost and Adoption posts in the community.
Dexter doesn't let you book appointments or consult a vet, and we don't sell pet products through the app. If we add features, these terms will apply to them, and we'll tell you about any extra terms first.
Price. Dexter is free for pet parents. If we ever offer optional paid features, we'll show the price clearly before you choose them, and nothing you already use will be put behind a paywall without notice.
4. Dexter AI and Smart Import are not veterinary advice
Dexter AI, Smart Import and other information in Dexter are general guidance only. They are not veterinary advice, diagnosis or treatment, and they don't replace a qualified vet. Always ask a vet before making decisions about your pet's health. In an emergency, contact your nearest emergency vet immediately.
Dexter AI can be wrong or incomplete. Smart Import suggests details from your documents, and you're responsible for checking them before you save them. Reminders depend on your phone's settings and connection, so don't rely on them alone for critical medication.
5. Your Pet Passport
Your Pet Passport shares only the details you switch on, for the time you choose, with the people you show your code to. You can see who scanned it and revoke access at any time.
- You're responsible for what you choose to share and who you share it with.
- Records in your Passport come from you. House of Dexter doesn't check or certify them, and businesses see them as shared by you.
- Revoking access stops future access straight away. It can't undo what someone has already seen or copied.
6. Community posts
Lost and Adoption posts help pets get home or find a new one. When you post:
- post only about real pets and real situations, with accurate details;
- use only photos you have the right to share, and don't show other people's faces without their permission;
- don't sell animals, ask for payment, or advertise in Adoption posts;
- don't share anyone's private information, including your own home address, unless you're comfortable with other users seeing it;
- meet in safe, public places and use your own judgement. We don't check users or animals, and we're not part of any arrangement between users.
Some Adoption posts are checked before they appear. We may remove posts, or restrict accounts, that break these terms.
7. Your content
You own the content you add to Dexter, such as pet profiles, records, photos and posts. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, process and display it only to run Dexter for you, including sending it to the service providers described in our Privacy policy, and, for community posts, to show it to other users. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we must keep by law or that others have already shared.
You confirm you have the right to add your content and that it doesn't break anyone's rights or the law.
8. Acceptable use
Don't use Dexter to:
- break the law, or help anyone else break it;
- harm, mistreat or sell animals unlawfully;
- harass, threaten, impersonate or mislead anyone;
- post content that is hateful, sexual, violent, defamatory or infringes someone's rights;
- send spam or collect other users' information;
- interfere with Dexter's security or performance, or access it by automated means without our permission;
- copy, modify or reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows.
9. Our rights
Dexter, including its software, design, the House of Dexter and Dexter names and logos, and our content, belongs to House of Dexter or our licensors. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use Dexter for your own pets. They don't give you any other rights in it.
If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.
10. HoD Business and other services
HoD Business, our service for groomers, vets, boarding homes and other pet businesses, has its own terms. Businesses are independent of House of Dexter. We're not responsible for the services they provide or how they treat your pet.
Dexter may link to or work with services run by others, such as Google sign-in or app stores. Their own terms and privacy policies apply to them.
11. Changes and availability
We're always improving Dexter, so features may change, be added or be removed. We try to keep Dexter available, but it may sometimes be interrupted for maintenance, updates or reasons outside our control.
If we change these terms in a significant way, we'll tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. If you keep using Dexter after that, the new terms apply. If you don't agree, you can stop using Dexter and delete your account.
12. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile, then Settings, then Delete account) or from our Delete your account page.
We may suspend or close an account, or remove content, if it breaks these terms, puts other people or animals at risk, or if the law requires it. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond. We may also close accounts that have been inactive for a long time, after giving you notice.
13. Our responsibility to you
We provide Dexter with reasonable care and skill. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, Dexter is provided "as is" and "as available", and we don't promise it will always be accurate, complete or uninterrupted.
To the extent the law allows, House of Dexter isn't liable for:
- any decision about your pet's health or care, or its outcome;
- indirect or consequential loss, or loss of data you could have backed up;
- anything other users or businesses do;
- events outside our reasonable control.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
14. If you're in Australia
Our services come with guarantees that can't be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or changes those guarantees or any other right you have under the Australian Consumer Law. Where the law allows us to limit our liability for failing to meet a guarantee, our liability is limited to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
15. Disputes and governing law
If something goes wrong, please contact us first at [CONFIRM: support address]. Most problems can be fixed quickly.
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of [CONFIRM: city] have jurisdiction. If you live in another country, you keep any protections its consumer laws give you, and you may be able to bring a claim in your local courts.
16. General
If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. You can't transfer your rights under these terms to anyone else. We may transfer ours as part of a merger or sale, and your rights won't be reduced.
